Jennings House (Annapolis, Maryland)

Jennings House, located in Annapolis, Maryland, was the residence of the governors of Maryland from 1777 until 1870. when it was replaced by the current Government House on State Circle, across from the Maryland State House. The building was sold in 1869 to the United States Naval Academy (which had been established in Annapolis in 1845, 24 years before) for $25,000 (25 thousand dollars) - equivalent to (equivalent to $572,000 in 2023). It was demolished by the Academy three decades later in 1901.

Future state chief executive and xx Governor of Maryland George Howard, son of earlier Governor John Eager Howard, was born in the Jennings House in 1789.[1]
